Richard Gaffin to Edit Translation of Geerhardus Vos’ Reformed Dogmatics

Bellingham, WAJuly 29—Logos Bible Software announced today that it has commissioned Richard Gaffin as editor of the first-ever English translation of Geerhardus Vos’ Reformed Dogmatics (Gereformeerde Dogmatiek).

Gaffin is an acclaimed Vos scholar. He has published numerous articles on Vos and served as editor of Redemptive History and Biblical Interpretation: The Shorter Writings of Geerhardus Vos, which contains Vos’ addresses, articles, reviews and other works. Gaffin has taught at Westminster Theological Seminary since 1965, where he is currently Professor of Biblical and Systematic Theology, Emeritus.

“We are thrilled that Richard Gaffin will be editing Vos’ Reformed Dogmatics,” said Logos CEO Bob Pritchett. “His expertise on Vos will ensure a quality translation which will serve English-speaking scholars and pastors for years to come.”

Gaffin will oversee a team of translators, who will begin their work this fall. The translation project will finish in early 2013, with publication scheduled for the summer of 2013.

Geerhardus Vos was an important theologian from the early twentieth century. He taught at both Princeton Theological Seminary, alongside J. Gresham Machen and B. B. Warfield, and Calvin Theological Seminary. He was an outspoken proponent of Reformed Biblical Theology. Cornelius Van Til wrote, “Vos was the greatest pedagogue I ever sat under,” and John Murray said, "[Vos was] the most penetrating exegete it has been my privilege to know.” Vos’ Reformed Dogmatics synthesizes his work into a systematic theology.

Logos has taken a unique approach to translating Geerhardus Vos’ Reformed Dogmatics. Rather than undertake the translation project on speculation, they first gauged interest by allowing their users to pre-order it. Only after enough users expressed interest did they move the project forward.

Logos is committed to making Vos’ Reformed Dogmatics available to the widest audience possible. The translation is currently available at a discounted pre-order price, which will rise as the publication date approaches.
