The Difference between Verses and Pericopes in the Bible Browser

man on computer using logos bible browser

A recent question from a fellow Logos user forms the foundation of this blog, and it basically goes like this:

What’s the difference, if any, in selecting “pericope” or “verse” in the Bible Browser?

To answer this we’ll look at a specific example:

k

  • Open the Bible Browser from the Tools menu
  • Select The Lexham English Bible (LEB) from the Bible drop-down list (A)
  • Click 1 Timothy in the Bible Books | New Testament section in the left sidebar (B)
  • Select Pericope from the drop-down list in the upper right of the panel (C)

k

  • Notice in the “bread crumb” area there are 18 perciopes (sections) in 1 Timothy in the LEB (D)

k

  • Select Verse from the drop-down list in the upper right of the panel (E)
  • Notice in the “bread crumb” area there are 113 verses in 1 Timothy in the LEB (F)

k

  • Type widow in the Find box in the left sidebar (G)
  • Notice the number to the right of Widows in the sidebar indicating there are 8 verses in 1 Timothy in the LEB containing the Bible Person tag, Widows (H)

k

  • Select Pericope from the drop-down list in the upper right of the panel (I)
  • Notice the number to the right of Widows in the sidebar indicating there is 1 pericope in 1 Timothy in the LEB containing the Bible Person tag, Widows (J)

So I think you can see, selecting Pericope or Verse does NOT change the search results, but primarily how the results are displayed.
