Get Quick Access to Your Highlighters with This Simple Trick

A Logos user emailed me the following question:

Is there any way to set up the highlighting feature of Logos to be part of the right click options in order to quickly be able to highlight key phrases while reading the Bible or other books without having to go “dig out” the highlighter function?

Since highlighting is a very popular feature with Logos this is a very appropriate question. Even though currently we can’t customize the context menu, we can create shortcuts to our favorite highlighting styles so we don’t have to “dig out” the highlighting tool each time we want to mark up text:

If you use the highlighting feature try this:

  • Choose Tools | Highlighting
  • Expand a palette such as Highlighter Pens (A)
  • Rest the cursor on a style name like Blue Highlighter (B)
  • Click the arrow to the far right of the style name (C)
  • Click Shortcut key on the drop down menu (D)
  • Select a number or letter from the drop down list such as B for blue (E)

  • Repeat the above steps to create additional shortcuts for other styles such as R for red, G for green and so on
  • Close the Highlighting panel
  • Open any resource
  • Select some text in the resource you wish to mark up (F)

  • Press the keyboard shortcut you created, such as B for blue
  • Notice the text is highlighted even though the Highlighting panel wasn’t open! (G)

I encourage you to create shortcuts for the highlighting styles you use most frequently. This one little trick will save you a lot of time as you read and mark up your resources.
