Bible Word Study Report Part VII: Report Properties

This is the seventh and final portion of my series on the Bible Word Study (BWS) report. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve blogged on this topic, but it is time to wrap up the thread.

Since we’ve only discussed how the Bible Word Study report deals with Greek text, we’ll limit this discussion to the options for Greek words inside of the report.

The report properties are broken up in sections—the same sections that are included in the BWS report itself. So the Lemma properties have to do with the Lemma, etc. So we’ll refer back to earlier posts as we step through each section’s properties.

Lemma Preferences
Remember this?

This is what I earlier called the “Report Header“; this is the Lemma section of the report. And there are options as to what can be displayed in this area of the report. These include:

Simply checking items on or off controls whether or not the item is displayed.

KeyLink Properties

The KeyLink section has a single option. It can be displayed or not displayed. The KeyLinks themselves are controlled by your own user preferences.

Grammatical Relationships

Here’s where the fun begins. The Grammatical Relationships section consists of syntax searches that run in an available syntax data base. Each checkbox item, then, is reflective of a syntax search that can be run. If an item is checked, the search will be run. If an item is unchecked, the search will not occur.

At present, Grammatical Relationships are only examined in the OpenText.org Syntactically Analyzed Greek New Testament. You can see this below. Note that the organization and presentation of this properties section may change in the future, but the same basic options will be presented.

Note that this is one area where speed of the BWS report can be tweaked. If you have more boxes checked, then more time will be taken as more searches are invoked. Fewer boxes checked means less time.
Translation

The Translation section of the BWS report offers a single preference, that of being included or not being included.

Concordance Options (aka ‘Lemma Reports’)

In the above image, you can see that I have six different concordance options present. Because these are in the context of Greek words, the below refer to editions of the works in Greek, not English. They are reflected in the Lemma Report section of the BWS report.

  • Greek New Testament: This is fairly self-explanatory. Note the ability to change your preferred GNT.
  • Greek Septuagint: This is the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible along with extra apocryphal/deuterocanonical books.
  • Works of Philo: This is in reference to the Works of Philo in Greek.
  • Works of Josephus: This is in reference to the Greek edition of the Works of Josephus, which we don’t even have on pre-pub yet. But we will. So keep your eyes open.
  • OT Greek Pseudepigrapha: This is in reference to the collection of pseudepigraphic works in Greek that is presently available as a pre-pub. We’re still working on it, and when it is available you’ll be able to use it in the BWS report.
  • Apostolic Fathers: This as well is in reference to the Apostolic Fathers collection on pre-pub. We’re working on this too. If you look closely, you’ll see that the screen capture shows I can choose a preferred edition of the Apostolic Fathers.

And that’s it, as far as the BWS Properties go. Hopefully the series has been helpful in getting a better idea of what’s going on in the BWS report.
