Checking the version of a book file

Checking the version of a book file

Problem:

Sometimes using an old version of a book file in Libronix can cause problems.

Solution:

To check the version of a book follow these instructions:

  • Open the book and click on Help | About This Resource.
  • Scroll down and expand the Resource Location section.
  • Note the filename under Location and date information under Version. It will look similar to the example below:

Status       Location                                                                             Version

Available    C:\Program Files\Libronix DLS\Resources\nasb95.lbxlls          2006-11-17T21:51:56Z
Available    C:\LOGOS20\BOOKS\NASB95.LSF                                      1980-03-24T00:00:07Z

A Libronix book ends with the extension .lbxlls. An older Logos Library System (LLS) book ends with .LSF  (there is also an index file for each LLS book ending with .LIX).

If Libronix reads both book files, that is okay because it automatically prefers the new version when both are present. If Libronix lists only the old book file, it is reading the old LLS version of the book, and this can cause problems in some resources.

To replace the older books, follow one or both of the steps below:

Run the Resource AutoUpdate script:

Click this link to download updated book files to your hard drive:  http://www.logos.com/media/update/ResourceAutoUpdate.lbxupd. In the Libronix Update window, you can select or deselect the resources listed under Recommended and Optional.

Copying Books to the Hard Drive from Libronix DLS DVD/CDs:

When you install Libronix, the Libronix Digital Library System software automatically installs to the hard drive. Your electronic books remain on the disc(s). To use your books, the DVD/CDs must be inserted or your books must be copied to the hard drive using the steps below:

  1. Shut down anti-virus software.
  2. Insert the DVD or Disc A and wait for Discovering Resources (in the lower-right corner of the Libronix window) to complete. (This can take 10-20 minutes with the DVD.)
  3. Click on the link in the Tip window to open Location Manager, or click on Tools | Library Management | Location Manager
  4. Select Unlocked on Removable Media from the List Resources drop down list.
  5. Select desired books to copy (all books will be selected by default, unless a newer version is already on your hard drive).
  6. Click on Copy Resources
  7. Repeat this process as necessary with any of the remaining discs. Note that some of the CDs may not have any books available on them, depending on which package you bought.
