Overview

The two disciples who walked with Jesus on the road to Emmaus heard the story of God’s redemption of humanity described in a way never heard before. How many of us have wished we could have listened in on that conversation? Yet we have the same Old Testament stories Jesus told, as well as the New Testament. What we need is an experienced guide to lead us on a journey through the Bible.

Respected Bible teacher Gordon L. Addington wants to take you through this journey in one year. In Discovering the Bible, he gives insightful notes and the historical background for each day’s reading. See how God unfolds His amazing plan of redemption throughout the entire Bible.

Praise for the Print Edition

Discovering the Bible fills a much-needed gap in contemporary Bible study. Not only is it a very readable and practical commentary on the whole Bible but it is also a helpful reader-sensitive guide to biblical prophecy and the messianic hope that finds fulfillment in Jesus Christ. Its layout and use of clearly marked codes for Bible study make it a unique contribution to the layperson’s and the serious Bible student’s library.

John J. Sailhamer, professor of Hebrew and Old Testament, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary

Gordon Addington is steeped in the Bible. This surgeon and former missionary weeps with the sorrowing and cheers with the jubilant. Discovering the Bible consistently calls us to accountability and allows Scripture to interpret Scripture.

Warren S. Benson, senior professor of Christian education and leadership, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

I’m interested in any tool that will get people into God’s Word and help them in their understanding of God’s truth in their lives. In Discovering the Bible, Dr. Addington has given us an effective means of grasping the grand scope of God’s revelation.

—Wayne Pederson, executive director, SkyLight Satellite Network

I know of nothing more critical for a follower of Jesus than a comprehensive introduction, authentic reflection, and personal application of God’s Word. There are no shortcuts! Discovering the Bible is a terrific tool for a bright-eyed fresh convert or seasoned patriarch of the faith.

—Stephen R. Graves, cofounder, Cornerstone Group
