From the Preface: In the present volume it was not our purpose to attempt a complete biography of Paul, nor to give a full statement of his theology. We have endeavored to present a brief outline of the Apostle’s heritage and personal qualities, and of the emphasis of his preaching, in the belief that such data make his epistles more interesting and understandable. The work was prepared for the general reader, but we have kept in mind especially pastors, Christian education directors, teachers, and other church leaders. The book should be helpful to adult and youth societies, classes and study groups which desire a general survey of the ministry of Paul and of the beginnings of Gentile Christianity. Teachers and other workers may wish to supplement the material with additional research and to develop in detail certain aspects of thought which herein are only suggested.—Boyce W. Blackwelder
