Top Highlights

“A question this book seeks to address both implicitly and explicitly, but not definitively, is to what extent the theologian has flexibility in choosing his philosophical groundwork.” (Page 1)

“Its major goal is to facilitate discussion on its central theme: the inevitable reliance of theology on certain philosophical concepts. All too frequently the theological task is carried on without taking the proper philosophical roots into account, whether they be from first-century or twentieth-century thought. And in particular, the theologians in the evangelical tradition, who are specifically addressed in this volume, many times obscure or ignore the distinction between biblical theology and systematic theology. This work is intended as a tool to call attention to the need for serious philosophical thinking by the theologian. If such thinking should result, even in the form of a point-by-point refutation of each of my arguments, my writing will not have been in vain.” (Page 1)

“The fact of philosophical presuppositions to theology is a given.” (Page 1)

“Traditionally, prolegomena constitutes an introduction to theology. In works in systematic theology it will be the first part or chapter, dealing with preliminary matters before one can proceed to the actual theologizing.” (Page 1)

“we will restrict ourselves to what is variously known as classical, orthodox, or evangelical theology” (Page 1)

This a great resource about Theology and Philosophy. I am not done reading all of it, as far as I have, I am delighted to learn from scholars that can share their knowledge and understanding of The Holy Scriptures in order for others to learn and live well, and fulfill the great commission. I strongly recommend this resource.
