About Lyman Beecher

Lyman Beecher (1775-1863) was born in Connecticut, the son of a blacksmith. He was educated at Yale and later, at Yale Divinity School. He was the father of thirteen children, many of whom grew up to be famous in their own right, including Henry Ward Beecher and Harriet Beecher Stowe. He was a staunch Presbyterian Calvinist, promoting wide-spread evangelism and revival.
