New Logos Modules Give Scholars Integrated Platform

For Biblical Research

Logos Research Systems, Inc., announced today the release of Biblical Languages Supplement, a collection of 20 new resources and over a half dozen new automation addin modules designed specifically for students and teachers of biblical languages. These components form a specialized original language research suite that can be integrated into the largest existing digital Bible library: Logos Bible Software Series X.

With the release of Biblical Languages Supplement (BLS), Logos has freed academic users, pastors, and serious laypeople to standardize on a single platform offering a full array of electronic tools for biblical study. Tools included in BLS provide unprecedented new ways of looking at the biblical text, and make it easier than ever to perform sophisticated original language searches.

A Single Platform for Diverse Needs

Serious students of the Bible require the very best professional-level tools to work with the biblical texts. In the past, this often meant purchasing and installing at least two different software packages: an exegetical package for working directly with the original languages and a comprehensive digital library for researching historical and cultural background, early Christian writings, commentary written over the course of 2,000 years, scholarly journals, and other secondary source material used for responsible exegesis of the text. Purchasing and learning two completely different applications was cumbersome, expensive, and time consuming.

“All that has changed,” says Dale Pritchett, vice president of sales and marketing at Logos, “Logos Bible Software Series X now serves the needs of people who rigorously analyze the Greek, Hebrew, and even Syriac biblical texts. Powerful morphological searches can be run in the same environment used to search hundreds or even thousands of secondary sources. This is a new direction for us, and one that is being wholeheartedly welcomed by pastors, academic users, and laypeople.”

Tools and Texts for Scholarly Users

Tools in BLS include new search interfaces, innovative visualizations, charts, graphs, a diagramming tool, and “visual filters.” Many of the visualizations are brand new concepts, never before included in any exegetical software package! Other features, such as a graphical query editor and enhanced morphological search interface make it possible to perform complex searches without first hunting through a thick manual or memorizing some arcane syntax.

Texts in the package include new original language texts, lexicons, morphological databases, and readings in ancient Egyptian literature. All resources integrate seamlessly with other Logos products such as Scholar’s Library and a list of more than 4,000 compatible titles.

Pritchett says, “By providing scholarly users with a full range of morphological texts and innovative ways of visualizing the data we are expanding the horizons of biblical languages study. The sky’s the limit!”
