Bible Study, It's Essential
Bible Study, for the Christian is an essential part of our life. If we are to mature then we have to study. God's word tells us to "study to show ourselves approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed". Bible study should not be a burden on us, but should be a hunger to us. Studying the word's that God gave us helps us to know His very heart, and to live our lives seeing Him all around us, seeing and being involved in the things our Loving God is doing. If God truly calls us His own then I believe that He wants us to intimately know Him and the best way is a serious Bible study.
I have personally used the KJV as my Bible of choice to memorize from because this version is the one I grew up with in my Christian life. In my Bible study, however, I use several versions to help me to get a grasp on what the context of the passage is. One of my favorites is the NLT, it seems to flow so well. Computerized Bible study software and internet sites have been a blessing. Going from version to version from commentary to commentery is made easier and more fun. we can get involved in a Bible study and get a world of information. Using the Logos Bible study format has made it all even easier, because everything is together in one package. We now have no excuse for not getting involved in a good Bible study because it is so easy.
Being a bivocational pastor for several years made Bible study tough to say the least, but when my children found this Logos Bible study program a couple of years ago and gifted me with it Bible study came alive again and I can't seem to get enough. The Word of God is has been such an important part of my life from the very beginning when my pastor encouraged me to read and to study. I as a pastor also encourage my folks to get involved in serious Bible study. A good Bible study is like the breath we breathe, refreshing and needful for life, real life, as a Christian believer.
