Give Thanks for God's Blessings in Bible Study

National Bible Week gave me an opportunity to give thanks to God for the many blessings that come through Bible study, some of which we don’t often consider blessings.

One example is God’s Moral Law. Bible study shows us that the law gives us borders; it limits us, telling us what we should and should not do. We all know and understand that children need rules set down by their parents to know what is expected of them, to guide them, and even to protect them. We know that God’s law serves the same purpose for all human beings; it sets limits and boundaries for us, so that we know exactly what God wants. More often than we would care to admit, we overstep the bounds of God’s law. Even then, however, Bible study shows us that we ought to give thanks for God’s law again.

After all, the law is there to serve as a mirror for us, showing us that we have offended our Almighty God and deserve nothing but his punishment and repulsion. The law shows us we can never hope to keep the law perfectly, and thus points to our deep need for a Savior. Further Bible study points to that Savior. Give thanks to God for his law! Without it we would never know that we had sinned or needed a Savior.

Bible study also shows it is right and proper for us to thank God for his reprimands. Deuteronomy 8:5 says “Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.” Discipline is meant to teach and correct, not only from parent to child, but also from God to his people. The Apostle Paul wrote: “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him” (Romans 8:28). No matter what happens in the Christian’s life, we can be sure that God will use it to bless us in the end. Bible study helps us to recognize that difficulty in our lives simply serves to draw us closer to God and remind us that it is He through whom all blessings come.

The Libronix Library System gives one the ability to quickly find God’s blessings, even amidst tragedy or difficulty. Thank God for the great blessings he has given us to study his Word in the 21st century.
