Bible Study - A Way to Walk With the Lord
When I was early in my Christian walk I would only read the bible occasionally, and very spotty at best, it could hardly be referred to as a Bible study. I saw the Bible as a great book, massive and intimidating. In addition it was difficult for me to read, and many times I came away without really understanding what I had just read.
As often happens in the course of one’s life I got lost for many years. I still loved the Lord, but was too focused on my work, my family and life’s general problems making a serious Bible study far from my priority list. However, a long illness finally forced me to stop and refocus on the Lord. I started my Bible study simply enough, I decided to read the bible end to end so I could at least understand the Lords word as a total package. I read the bible from cover to cover, then picked up different versions and read them from end to end, in three years time I had been through the bible now more than ten times. Throughout this time, I was constantly praying to the Lord to really know him, to know his will for my life, to know what I was supposed to do. Most importantly I wanted to connect.
Then a funny thing happened, it dawned on me that my Bible study had become my daily, ongoing conversation with the Lord. I found my answers in his word, I found a deep and daily joy in reading the now familiar stories and scriptures and reveling in my Lords words. My Bible study started and ended with a long intimate prayer that soon became an ongoing joyous conversation with the Lord. I took each chapter in every version I could find, read all of the accompanying notes, all of the amplifications offered by the publishers. If I didn’t understand it, I would look it up in Logos, and then I would just trust the Lord to help me understand what he wanted me to understand.
My Bible study, now twice a day, has become a living joyous walk with my Lord. It is a point of daily joy, a time to share and pray and connect in a way that I never could have imagined. My Bible study is alive, my relationship is alive, and I thank and praise my Lord for meeting my every question in his word, anticipating what I needed, and having just the perfect answer laid out for me when I needed it.
Praise the Lord.
