Sola Scriptura and Bible Study
Why Sola Scriptura? Why Bible Study? These two valuable questions definitively address my own pursuit for truth; a pursuit which I liken to a steel track under the train which is speeding me on to my destination in life.
Why Sola Scriptura? I have heard it said somewhere, 'everything is either written in sand or in stone'. Scripture alone is the only indisputable 'written in stone' communication that mankind can rely on for their destination in life. The canon of Scripture encompasses the sixty-six books found in the Holy Bible, covering the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation. Proven by fulfilled prophecy, archaeology and the faith of the saints, it is the 'only' writings by man that can claim holy inspiration from God and really mean it. It is our foundation, our roots which cannot be uprooted. It is our sixty-six pillars that will never pass away. It is therefore our only codebook for life.
Why Bible Study? In a world filled with uncertainty, and in my own life which was filled with despair, pain and confusion, the question, "what about the Bible?" came to my mind. What then flashed before me were three Christian examples of people that had lived their honest, loving and unconditional faith before me in my past. I was drawn to their Jesus through the Sola Scriptura. The Bible Study that then began for me not only opened up my understanding of my past, but also gave me wisdom on how to live in the present. The Bible Study I began to pursue instilled in me a good and sure hope for the future. Bible Study has helped me become a better father, husband and citizen of this planet.
In conclusion, I base my life on Sola Scriptura and Bible Study. Jesus, the Living Word, led me to His written Word and the Holy Spirit infused faith into me to believe. This understanding prompts me to continue Bible Study for the rest of my journey in this life under the sun.
