A Case for Bible Study
I began bible study after coming to know Christ as my personal savior about 30 years ago. Back then, when I used to consider bible study I would conjure up images of assorted thick, heavy, dusty books dating from antiquity. These were the sources and resources needed to learn the secrets of the saints, so I thought. I longed for texts that were out of reach either because of their scarcity or their price. As a newly married convert sharing the budget with a wife that did not share my love for Christ at the time was limiting to say the least But as the years went by I was able to lead my wife to Christ and together we added to our library and bible study got more interesting, but it also became cumbersome. Stacks of books and notes all laid out in what started out to be some logical order but two or three references later became a confusing hodge-podge of clutter. This method of bible study continued for almost two decades before the personal computer changed our world forever.
Soon after the PC’s introduction, bible software became available. These simple scripture texts were written for DOS. (The first operating system of the PC) But they offered the ability to quickly move from one place to another with such ease it was laughable. About the time Microsoft was releasing its first “Windows” operating system the concept of bible and bible study software started the revolution towards today’s “personal libraries” as I call them. Quickly, bible study began to be more than just searching the Biblical text only for words, phrases and themes as other reference titles were added. The excitement among teachers and preachers grew steadily as a few companies emerged as serious providers. Jumping in I invest hundreds of dollars in what I thought to be the best software available, only to find the company being bought and sold with enough regularity that the vision of providing the best was lost to, selling the most upgrades. However my frustrations were quelled when I was introduced to Logos. I abandoned the “upgrade providers” for the most comprehensive “Bible Study” software found today, at any price.
My longing for uncluttered efficient study has been realized at last. Countless hours of research have been compressed into only a few. And through the use of a community-pricing concept many titles and texts are more easily available. I love to study so I may know my Lord and follow Him more closely every day. I love to study to help others as well. If time is as valuable to you as it is to me and you need the best value for your money, I feel Logos has the tools to help you grow in your relationship with Christ. But after all isn’t that what bible study is all about?
