Why Bible Study is Important
Bible Study is very important in that it helps a non-Christian understand the need to become a Christian; it helps the Christian as it feeds him daily and finally it is very important to me as it enables me to learn how to please God and come to know Him better.
For the person who does not know Jesus Christ as Saviour any form of Bible study which they can engage in will alter their eternal destiny. In 2 Tim3:15, Paul says to Timothy, ”You have been taught the Holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.” So we see that through this Bible study and the conviction of the Holy Spirit as he reads the Bible, a person is able to see God’s plan of salvation and come to realize they he or she will not have eternal life without repenting of his or her sins and acknowledging Christ as Saviour. Thus the study of the Bible in this instance is of vital importance to this person. It represents life of death to that one.
For the Christian, the reading of the Bible is a daily necessity. Through feeding on the Word of God a person grows towards maturity in Christ. It is only as one reads the Word that one can obey it. Thus Bible Study is vital to a Christian. We are exhorted in 2 Pet 3:18 to “grow in the grace and aknowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
For me reading the Bible daily and Bible Study is my most important task each day that I engage in. God has enabled me by His grace to read it daily now for many years and through it I have come to know Him better and to hear Him speak to me each day. It is such a thrill to know that the One who set the world in place, who created all things, wants to communicate with me each day. It really is beyond understanding. 2 Cor. 3:18 “But we all, with unveiled face, abeholding as in a mirror the bglory of the Lord, are being ctransformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from dthe Lord, the Spirit.” Here the Bible is referring to what happens to a person when they read and obey the Word of God, the Bible. As we read the Bible daily we are preparing ourselves for the next life and fitting ourselves to live as we should down here and to do what pleases God.
So, we see that Bible study is very important to everyone; the Christian, the Unbeliever and especially to me as it helps prepare us all for life with our lord Jesus in eternity.
