Internet Explorer 7 & Libronix DLS

Microsoft is encouraging all users of Internet Explorer to upgrade to version 7 because of its improved security features and performance. Indeed, Microsoft has been rolling Internet Explorer 7 out to users as a high priority security update since early 2007. So if you have Microsoft Windows set to automatically download and install updates, Windows will download IE7 silently and then prompt you to install it at that time.

What Does IE7 Mean for My Libronix Digital Library System?

Libronix DLS, the technology behind Logos Bible Software and products from publishing partners such as Thomas Nelson, Fortress Press, Galaxie, and others, depends on Internet Explorer to display reports such as Passage Guide, Exegetical Guide or Bible Word Study.

Unfortunately, the shipping version of IE7 that Microsoft released in late 2006 is incompatible with all versions of Libronix DLS prior to version 3.0b.

Therefore, we are recommending that all users update to the newest version of Libronix DLS.

IE7 FAQ

Q: How do I find out which version of Libronix DLS I'm running?

A: Open Libronix. Click Help | About Libronix DLS and look for your version number near the top of the dialog box that opens.

Q: Do I have to update to Libronix DLS to the latest version?

A: As noted above, we recommend it for all users...but if you are not planning to upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 you can keep using an older version of Libronix DLS with Internet Explorer 6.

Q: Can I update Libronix before I install Internet Explorer 7?

A: Yes, the latest version of Libronix DLS is compatible with both Internet Explorer 6 and 7.

Q: I recently updated to version 3.0a and the download was huge! Is the current update going to entail another large download?

A: For users running Libronix DLS 3.0a with the latest resources, the update will be ~25 MB. This is approximately one-tenth the size of the 3.0a download for most users, and a little less than twice the size of the IE7 download.

Q: The download is too large for me...can I order an update disc?

A: Yes! You can order the Media Only update disc (DVD or CD-ROM) which will give you the latest code and rebuilt book files.

Q: Can I roll Internet Explorer back to version 6 until I have a chance to order the Media Only update disc?

A: Logos does not provide tech support for Internet Explorer, but Microsoft support gives instructions for uninstalling version 7 and returning to version 6.

Q: Can I just install and use a web browser other than Internet Explorer?

A: No, Libronix DLS is dependent on Internet Explorer for displaying text within reports. Internet Explorer is a requirement for Libronix DLS.
