Bellingham, Washington
Bellingham is a regular on "Best Places" lists. With Bellingham Bay to the west and Mt. Baker to the east it's a city of great views.
Golfers, mountain bikers, skiers and snow-boarders find lots to do.
The historic Fairhaven district is also a transportation hub -- at the waterfront you can catch a train up or down the coast or jump on a cruise to Victoria, BC, through the San Juan Islands, or even Alaska. (Bellingham is the southernmost terminus of the Alaska Marine Highway System.)
Bellingham is home to Western Washington University.
