Summary
This article addresses a number of frequently asked questions or problems related to use of multimedia products.
DSSR Colors
When you're using only 16 colors in Windows, the DSSR display will look very bad. To fix this, from the Control Panels window open the Display control panel. Select the Settings tab and pull down the menu to change your color palette settings. They are currently set to something lower than 256 colors. Change the setting to 256 or higher and click Ok. Now you shouldn’t have any problems viewing DSSR.
DSSR Movies do not play
You may be experiencing a conflict with your video driver and QuickTime, a movie player that is used by the program. If you’re using Win95, try this:
- Right-mouse click the My Computer icon.
- Select Properties.
- Click the Performance tab.
- Click Graphics.
- Drag the Hardware Acceleration slider all the way to the left.
- Click OK.
- Click Close.
- After rebooting your computer, start LWF again.
If you're using Windows 3.x, you need to obtain a newer version of your video driver. You can usually do this by contacting the manufacturer of your video card and requesting the newest version of the drivers for your card.
MINSTALL Error
If you get an MINSTALL error when you try to install Dead Sea Scrolls Revealed, it's usually because the video driver you’re using is using something other than 256 colors. To install DSSR, you will need to temporarily set your color resolution/depth to 256 colors. To change your color settings in Windows 95, follow these steps:
- From the Windows desktop, click Start and select Settings.
- Click the Control Panels.
- Double-click Display.
- Select the Settings tab in the Display Properties dialog box.
- Locate the selection box for selecting the Color Depth.
- Change the Color Depth setting to 256 colors and click OK.
- Run the installation.
- After the installation completes, repeat steps 1-6 to change the Color Depth setting back to your previous setting.
If you're using Windows 3.x, consult your video card's user manual or technical support for information on how to change your color depth/resolution.
Xlib Not found
The DSSR CD needs to be used from the CD drive with the highest CD drive letter, otherwise the DSSR program will not find the CD. If the DSSR CD is used from a drive with a lower drive letter than another CD drive, then you will get the 'XLib not found' error messages as well as the 'Handler not defined' error. Insert the DSSR CD in the CD writer, change the drive letters for the CD drive and the CD writer around, or disconnect the CD writer in order for DSSR to work properly.
