Dead Sea Scrolls Revealed (DSSR) Issues

The information in this article applies to the following product issues:

  • DSSR QuickTime Version Changes
  • DSSR Movies
  • DSSR Colors

Summary

DSSR QuickTime version changes

If you are experiencing problems when you try to play movies, the cause may be the QuickTime movie player program that comes with DSSR.  QuickTime is a third-party software that allows Windows, and Windows applications such as Logos multimedia products, to play movies.  However, the QuickTime software constantly is being updated as most software is. We take great pains to ensure that the most current version is shipped with multimedia products when they are released.  However, there is no way to completely eliminate version conflicts because many different products are being released from many different software vendors at different times. As such, they may attempt to install different versions of the QuickTime software, and this is where problems may occur.

In this situation, we suggest that you install the copy of QuickTime that comes with the DSSR CD. To do this, insert the DSSR CD in your CD-ROM drive and from the Windows 95/98 desktop, click Start or from Windows 3.1 Program manger, click File. Select Run. Type x:\QTW201\SETUP.EXE (where "x" is your CD-ROM drive letter name) and click Ok. Then follow the prompts, making sure to remove all previous versions of QuickTime that the program may find.

Re-installing the QuickTime software from the DSSR CD should resolve the problem you are having with the error message while running DSSR. If the problem continues, call Logos Technical Support for further instructions.

DSSR Colors

When you're using only 16 colors in Windows, the DSSR display will look very bad. To resolve the problem, from the Control Panel, open the Display control panel window.  Select the Settings tab and pull down the menu to change your color palette settings. The current settings will be something lower than 256 colors. Change the number to 256 or higher and click Ok.  Now you shouldn't have any problems viewing colors in DSSR.

DSSR Movies

You may be experiencing a conflict with your video driver and QuickTime, a movie player that is used by the program. If you're using Windows 95, try this procedure to resolve the problem:

  1. From your Windows desktop, right-mouse click My Computer.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Click the Performance tab.
  4. Click Graphics.
  5. Drag the Hardware Acceleration slider all the way to the left.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Close.
  8. Restart your computer.

If you're using Windows 3.x, you will need to obtain a newer version of your video driver. You can usually do this by contacting the manufacturer of your video card and requesting the newest version of the drivers for your card.
