Fix Problem When Dynamic Verse Insertion Will Not Paste into Document Using Your Word Processor

The information in this article applies to the following products:

  • Logos Library System software version 2.1 and above

Summary

Changes to Microsoft Windows 95 and some word processing programs following the development of Dynamic Verse Insertion (DVI) have affected the way that the DVI determines the "target" window or document where to paste.  The problem should be resolved when the Logos20.ini file [DVIAPPINFO] section includes a statement set to provide specific information (values) to your word processor, for example WINWORD.EXE=108;1;.

Symptoms

When you use Dynamic Verse Insertion to paste into your word processing document, the paste appears to fail.

Resolution

To modify the word processor statement in the Logos20.ini file, follow these steps:

  1. Close all programs except Windows that are running on your computer.
  2. From the Windows desktop, click Start and Run, then type LOGOS20.INI and click OK.
    The Logos20.ini file should open for editing.
  3. From the Search menu, select Find....
  4. Type DVIAPPINFO and click Find Next.
    [DVIAPPINFO] will be highlighted.
  5. Close the Find dialog box.
  6. Scroll down to the statement that applies to your word processing program:
    For Microsoft Word for Windows, the statement is WINWORD.EXE=xxx;x;
    For WordPerfect 7 for Windows (where 7 is your version number), the statement is WPWIN7.EXE=xxx;x;
    For Microsoft Works, the statement is MICROSOFTWORKS.EXE=xxx;x;
    For Word Pro, the statement is WORDPRO.EXE=xxx;x;
  7. The statement that applies to your word processor should have two values following the equals sign (=). If you have one of the word processing programs mentioned in this article, the statement for your word processor and its corresponding values should appear as one of the following:
    WINWORD.EXE=108;1;
    WPWIN7.EXE=33032;1;
    MICROSOFTWORKS.EXE=72;1;
    WORDPRO.EXE=155;1;
    Note: A semi-colon (;) follows each number.
  8. If the line does not appear correctly, edit the value and then close the file and click Yes to save the changes.

When you restart Logos, Dynamic Verse Insertion should work properly.

To use the DVI, complete the following steps:

  1. Run Logos.
  2. From the Edit menu, select Preferences and the DDE/DVI tab, then check Dynamic Verse Insertion (DVI) Active to enable it and click Ok.
  3. Either start your word processor or, if the word processor already is running, click the word processing document window to make it active.
  4. Position your cursor at the point in the document where you want to insert the verse.
  5. To begin the verse insertion, click the DVI book icon.
  6. Select the book if necessary and enter the appropriate verse information, then click Insert.

DVI should insert the verses you requested in the document at the position where you placed the cursor.
