Move Logos and Your Library to a Different Hard Disk

The information in this article applies to the following products:

  • Logos Library System software version 2.0 and above

Summary

If you add a new hard drive to your computer and want to move Logos to the new disk or if you want to move Logos to a different disk, remember two things. Logos must be installed to only one location in your computer system and Logos must be installed (copying Logos files will not configure the LLS correctly, see TechResponse article "Understand the Three Basic Parts to LLS"). Make sure to backup your Logos system files so that the move can be accomplished as easily and quickly as possible. The easiest way to move Logos to another hard disk location is to have the backup of your Logos system files on a floppy disk, remove the original Logos software from its current hard disk, and then re-install Logos to the new hard disk and restore your Logos system files.

Instructions

To backup your Logos system files, complete the following steps:

  1. Run Logos.
  2. Insert the LOGOS Backup Disk in your floppy drive. If you do not already have a backup disk, you can use any 3.5-inch double-sided double-density blank formatted disk.
  3. From the Tools menu, click Backup Logos System Files....
  4. Change the default drive locations and backup filename (Logos.lsb) if necessary and click OK.

You may want to use your Windows File Explorer or File Manager commands to verify that the updated backup file exists on the floppy disk before you complete the next procedure to remove the system files from the current hard disk. Check that the file size is greater than 0 KB and that the "Modified" file date for Logos.lsb is the current date.

To remove Logos from the current hard disk, complete the following steps (See TechResponse article "Remove Logos from the Hard Disk Completely" for more detail):

  1. Delete the LRSYSTEM and LOGOS20 directories or folders from your hard disk.
  2. Delete the Logos20.ini file from the WINDOWS directory or folder.
  3. Edit the win.ini file in the WINDOWS directory or folder to remove the entire [LRSystems] section.
  4. Save the modified win.ini file.

To re-install Logos to the new hard disk and restore your unlocked books, complete the following steps (or see the TechResponse article "Re-install Logos with a LOGOS Backup Disk" for more detail):

  1. Run the Update program (UPDATE.EXE) from the most recent upgrade you have from Logos Research Systems, Inc., for example from the LLS book CD Volume 1.

Note: You can call Customer Service at 1-800-87LOGOS to order the most recent version of the Logos Update program and set of LLS book CD volumes at a minimal charge that helps cover production and shipping costs. If you have Internet access, you can download the most current shipping version of Logos from the Logos Web site (http://www.logos.com/) and run the Setup program (SETUP.EXE) that you download to your hard disk.

When prompted, install the LOGOS20 and LRSYSTEM directories to the new hard disk drive letter if necessary, for example D:.

  2. When installation is completed, run Logos.

  3. Insert the LOGOS Backup Disk in your floppy drive.

  4. From the Tools menu, click Restore System Files from Backup....

  5. Change the default drive locations and backup filename (Logos.lsb) if necessary and click OK.

The unlocked books that appeared prior to moving Logos should now appear in your Library Browser.
