Return Unlocked LLS Books (No "Re-locks," No Returns!)
The information in this article applies to the following products:
- Logos Library System software version 2.0 and above
Overview
Unlocked books cannot be returned to the publisher unless the unlock is time-sensitive and your use of the book was purchased on a temporary basis. With the exception of book loans, the "lock" on an unlocked LLS electronic book cannot be reversed or "re-locked" to return the book to the publisher if you decide that you don't want the book. Once a book is unlocked, the unlocked product is yours.
You own the product that you purchased whether the book is locked or unlocked
If you lose the unlock for a book and it becomes locked in your system again, the book still is yours. The unlock on your book can be lost if your Logos system files become inaccessible, damaged or deleted. Although the book will be locked in your system if you lose the unlock, you own the lost book just as if you purchased a hardcover book and then lost it somewhere.
Fortunately, unlocks for your books can be restored from the LOGOS Backup Disk if you always backup the system files every time you unlock a book from any LLS publisher. If you cannot restore your unlocks, you can call the LLS publisher(s) to ask about recovering your unlocks. (Publishers may only be able to recover unlocks for which they have records of your purchases, and they may charge a service fee.) If the unlock cannot be recovered, the book will be locked until you purchase the book again, just as would be the case if you lost a hardcover book and wanted to replace it.
You can remove the book from your Library Browser
If you do not want to ever use a book again, you can remove it from your Library Browser. To remove the book, run Logos, then click Librarian... from the Tools menu, select the book to remove, and click Remove.
If you change your mind, you can recover all the removed books in your library as long as the Logos system files with the unlocks for the books are preserved. See the TechResponse article "Recover a Book Removed by the Librarian Tool."
