Recover a Book Removed by the Librarian Tool by Editing Logos.map

The information in this article applies to the following products:

  • Logos Library System software version 2.0 and above

Overview

You can recover removed books if you used the Tools menu Librarian... command Remove button to remove books from your Library Browser. Remove only removes the book title from your browser list; Remove does not delete the book files from your system or change the unlock status of the book. To recover the book title in your browser, edit the Logos.map file in your LRSYSTEM directory and delete the [EXCLUDE] section.

Instructions

To recover book titles that you have removed from the Library Browser, follow these steps:

Note: If you are running Logos, click the close box to quit Logos.

  1. Edit the Logos.map file in your Logos system files directory, for example in the C:\LRSYSTEM directory or folder.

    From Windows 95/98/NT:
Click Start and then click Run....
    From Windows 3.1 Program Manager:
Click File and then click Run....

Type c:\lrsystem\logos.map (where C:\LRSYSTEM is the location where you installed the Logos system files).

Your text editor, for example Notepad, will open the Logos.map file for editing.

Note: If the Logos.map file does not have an associated program to open it, you will need to select a text editor (such as Notepad) or a word processing program (such as Word) to associate with the file and then try opening the file again.

    For Windows 95/98/NT:
You will be prompted by an Open With dialog box to select a program.
Select Notepad or any text editor or word processing program and click OK.
    Repeat Step 1.

    For Windows 3.1:
Click OK to leave the error message box.
Click File and then click Associate....
Select Notepad or any text editor or word processing program and click OK.
    Repeat Step 1.

  2. Delete the entire [Exclude] section of the file, including the lines that contain the Exclude section heading and the removed books. In the following sample file, you would delete the bold-faced lines:

    [Directories]
    C:\LOGOS20=
    C:\LOGOS20\BOOKS=
    C:\LRSYSTEM=
    D:\BOOKS=
    D:\CATALOGS=

    [Exclude]
    ANIMALS.LSF=

Note: The file should include one blank line at the end of the file. However, there can be no other blank lines within the file.

  3. From the File menu, click Save.

  4. Run Logos.

If the book files are available in your system and the book's unlock still is preserved in your Logos system files, the book should now appear in your Library Browser. (If the book files are on a CD, make sure that you have loaded the correct CD in your CD-ROM drive.)
