Understand the Logos Unlock Assistant (UNLOCKER.EXE)
The information in this article applies to the following products:
- Logos Library System software version 2.1f and above
Overview
Logos Unlock Assistant (UNLOCKER.EXE) is a program to help you purchase or "unlock" books that are available in the Logos Library System (LLS) electronic book format. The books listed in the Logos Unlock Assistant are sold and unlocked by Logos Research Systems, Inc.
Note: The Logos Unlock Assistant displays and unlocks only titles that can be sold and unlocked by Logos Research Systems, Inc. Logos does not have the rights and/or unlock privileges regarding materials developed and sold by other LLS Publishers. The titles listed are current as of the program’s file date.
You can use the program to search for a specific title or browse through an entire list of Logos Research Systems, Inc. titles, not just the titles from one CD at a time.
Although you run the Logos Unlock Assistant program rather than Logos, you must have Logos properly installed in your system. You do not need to load book CDs or have all the books available before unlocking them, for example if you are unlocking books from more than one CD or if you are purchasing some books that are not yet in your system. You can unlock all the books you want at the same time and they will be useable as soon as you load the appropriate book CD or download the book files from the Logos Web site to your hard disk.
When to use the Logos Unlock Assistant
Use the Logos Unlock Assistant if you want to search for a specific book title, if you have more than one LLS book CD, or if you want to browse through a list of LLS books that you don't have unlocked.
Note: If you are running Logos and you want to unlock a book from the CD in your CD-ROM drive, use the Unlock Books and Collections command from the Tools menu.
Your Locked Books list displays most of the books provided by Logos Research Systems, Inc. that you do not yet have unlocked. You can browse the list or search for a specific title or word within a title to find books. As you shop, you can add books to or remove books from the Selected Items list. When you've finalized your shopping list, you're ready to call the Unlock Hotline.
The Logos Unlock Assistant guides you through the Unlock procedure. Unlike the Unlock Books and Collections command in Logos, you do not need to have your LLS book CDs immediately available. Using the Logos Unlock Assistant, you can unlock all the books you want at the same time, even if they are on multiple CDs. The books that already are available in your system can be used immediately after unlocking. The books that you need to order on CD or download from the Internet will not be useable until they are available in your system. Once they are available, they can be used immediately.
Note if you have Logos lawfully installed on more than one computer: Logos Unlock Assistant will only list locked books and perform the unlocks based on the Logos system files that are present on the computer that you are using. After unlocking the books, run Logos to backup your Logos system files. Use the backup disk to restore the Logos system files to your additional computer(s).
