Answer: Why can't I find a specific title on my Unlock Books or Collections list?
The information in this article applies to the following products:
- Logos Library System software version 2.0 and above
Summary
What books or collections are listed when you run Logos and use the Unlock Books or Collections command are determined by what CD you are using or what versions of Logos catalog files you have installed. The book list displays whatever locked books are available on the CD that is in your CD-ROM drive when you start Logos. The collection list displays whatever collections were available at the time your Logos catalog files were installed. The catalog files are located in the directory where you installed Logos, for example C:\LRSYSTEM. If your catalog files are older than the CD, your list might be missing certain collections or some book descriptions and prices might be missing or outdated. To install the most recent Logos catalog files, download and run the Update Catalog Assistant (ucatalog.exe).
More Detail
When you insert a LLS book CD in your CD-ROM drive, run Logos and then use the Tools menu Unlock Books or Collections command, a list of books or collections available from a distributor such as Logos Research Systems, Inc. appears. What you see or what you can unlock depends on what CD you are using or on what versions of Logos catalog files are installed.
The individual book titles you see listed will be the locked books that are available on the CD you are using or on the directories listed in your Filemap. Their book description and price information will depend on the dates of the Logos catalog and price information files in your system. If you have a newer book CD and older catalog files, you may see outdated or missing descriptions and prices. The book collections you see listed will depend only on the dates of the Logos catalog, price and collection files that reside in the directory where Logos was installed, for example C:\LRSYSTEM. If the files are older than the date that the collection became available, the collection will not be listed. When you run the Logos Unlock Assistant program to unlock individual book titles, what you see and what you can unlock is as current as the date of the Unlocker program. Note that the Unlocker program cannot be used to unlock collections.
To use Logos to unlock and use a newly-published book, the book files must be downloaded from the Web to your hard disk or must be available on a new LLS CD if one is available. To unlock a collection from a newer CD or set of CDs, the collection title must be included in the files that provide Logos with its catalog information, for example colllrs.lsf and colllrs.lix. (You can unlock a collection before you have the book CD or CDs, but you will not be able to use the books until you have the book files available in your system.) If a collection is newer than your version of Logos, then you can download and run the Logos Update Catalog Assistant program to update your catalog files so that you can unlock the collection.
Note: The most recent version of the Logos Unlock Assistant (UNLOCKER.EXE) also may unlock the newest individual titles. However, the Unlocker cannot be used to unlock collections. See the TechRepsonse article "Understand the Logos Unlock Assistant."
The Logos Update Catalog Assistant (UCATALOG.EXE) is a program to update the Logos Library System catalog files so that you can use Logos to see more recent book descriptions and prices and to unlock the newest collections of books from the newest locked book CDs. The program replaces six files in the directory where you have installed Logos; it does not install a newer version of Logos or install the Logos software.
To update your catalog files, go to the Logos Web site at http://www.logos.com/products/update/ and click Update Catalog Assistant to download UCATALOG.EXE to a temporary directory on your hard disk. When you run the program, it will update the Logos Library System catalog information files so that you can use Logos to unlock the newest collections of books from the newest locked book CDs.
