Delete Logos Library System Books from the Hard Disk

The information in this article applies to the following products:

  • Logos Library System software version 2.0

For information about managing book data file locations, see TechResponse article "Relocate LLS Books."

Overview

To remove a LLS book from your hard disk to free hard disk space, you must use your Windows Explorer or File Manager utility to delete the book's two data files from the hard disk. (To remove a book from your Logos Library Browser, run Logos and use the Tools menu Librarian command Remove button. However, the Remove command does not physically delete the book files from a CD or hard disk and therefore it will not free disk space.)

Note: Deleting the book files will not affect the unlock for the book. If the book files are made available again when you run Logos, for example if you insert the book CD in your CD-ROM drive, the book should appear in your Library Browser.

Instructions

Hint: Before you delete any book files that you downloaded from the Internet, you may want to verify that your LLS book CD contains the correct edition of the book. To upgrade your LLS book CD volumes, go to the Logos Web site at http://www.logos.com or call 1-800-87LOGOS (1-800-875-6467).

Each LLS book consists of two data files indicated by file name extensions .lsf and .lix. To delete the book you must know the book's specific data file names. To determine the specific files names, run Logos and use the Tools menu Librarian command. When you select a book, the book's Book File (.lsf) and Index File (.lix) names appear below the book list. Record the file names of the book or books you want to delete, for example C:\LOGOS20\BOOKS\BIGBOOK.LSF and C:\LOGOS20\BOOKS\BIGBOOK.LIX, then quit Logos and run your Windows Explorer or File Manager to delete those files.

To determine the data file names for the books you want to delete from your hard disk, follow these steps:

  1. Run Logos.

  2. From the Tools menu, click Librarian....

  3. Select the title of the book you want to delete. The book's Book File (.lsf) and Index File (.lix) names and location appear below the book list. Make a note of the full file names to use later, for example C:\LOGOS20\BOOKS\Bigbook.lsf and C:\LOGOS20\BOOKS\Bigbook.lix. The files will both have the same data file name (for example, Bigbook) with an .lsf or .lix extension.
Repeat this step for each book you want to delete from your hard disk.

Note: The Librarian also displays the approximate data file size of the Book File and Index File for each book you select. Click to check or uncheck the Book or Index box to see the individual .lsf or .lix file sizes.

  4. Quit Logos.

To remove the book(s) from your hard disk by deleting the .lsf and .lix data files, follow these steps:

  1. From the Windows Start button, select Find... and click Files or Folders....

  2. Find the Book File and Index File data files for the book you want to delete from your hard disk.

In the Named: text box, type
bigbook.* (where "bigbook" is the data file name of the Book File and Index File you want to delete, for example Bigbook.lsf and Bigbook.lix).

In the Look in: text box, click the drop-down arrow and select your hard drive, for example C:.

Note: You may select "Local Hard Drives" or "My Computer" to look in, but first make sure that you remove the CD from your CD-ROM drive.

    Click Find Now.

  3. When the find results are displayed, if necessary click the drop-down arrow or drag the scroll box until the book file you want to delete is displayed.

Caution: Make sure that you select the exact LLS book data file name, for example C:\LOGOS20\BOOKS\Bigbook.lsf or C:\LOGOS20\BOOKS\Bigbook.lix. Note that the Find result also may include other types of files or file locations that are not the LLS book data file you want to delete, for example C:\My Documents\Bigbook.doc.

  4. Right-click your mouse on the data file name of the Book File you select to delete. From the pop-up menu, click Delete.
Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

  5. Right-click your mouse on the data file name of the Index File you select to delete. From the pop-up menu, click Delete.
Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

  6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for each LLS book you want to delete from your hard disk. Refer to the list of data file names that you recorded earlier to find the correct file names.

  7. When you have deleted the .lsf and .lix data files for each book you want to remove, you can quit Find.

The book data files should no longer appear in your hard disk directory.
