Manage Logos Book Windows

The information in this article applies to the following products:

  • Logos Library System software version 2.0 and above

Overview

Book window management in Logos is based on the same window management concepts as Microsoft Windows. For more detail about using Windows features, see your Windows user’s guide. For more detail about using specific features of Logos windows, see the Logos 2.1 User’s Guide.

Instructions

Open a Book Window

When you first install Logos 2.0 or above, the Library Browser window opens to the left of your screen and the workspace to its right automatically appears with the Logos Bible Software Overview Guide or Instant Expert Guide book window open on it.

Book windows can be opened many different ways, including:

Drag and Drop:

  1. Press Ctrl+B to display the Library Browser if it is not already displayed.

  2. Click the title of the book or book item you want to open.

Note: If you click an expandable symbol, the browser category will expand.

  3. Point to your selection and click-and-hold the mouse button.
Your pointer will change from an arrow to a circle with a slash.

  4. While still holding the mouse button down, drag the item to the workspace.

  5. Position the pointer and release the mouse button.
When you drag the pointer to an active workspace, it will change to an arrow with a book attached.

Note: Replace the book in an open window by dragging the selected item to the open window and then releasing the mouse button. Create an additional window by dragging the selected item to an empty place on the main workspace and then releasing the mouse button.

New Bible commands:
From the Window menu, click New Bible Window or New Bible and Reference.

Search and Browse commands:
If you use search or browse commands, when you view the results and double-click a book location, or double-click an article, the appropriate book window opens automatically.

Load Workspace command:
If you have saved workspaces or Fast-Start Workspaces, you can load a workspace to open the arrangement of books and windows. From the Tools menu, click Load workspace and select a named workspace.

Close an Open Window

To close an open window, click the close box (square with an X in it) on the active window’s title bar.

Make a Window Active

The active window is indicated by a highlighted window title bar. Click anywhere inside the window to make the window active.

View Window Contents

Your open book windows may be arranged so that you can preview the contents of as many windows as possible on your screen and see where the contents change as various links and cross-references are activated.

Note: Fast-Start workspaces are designed to this advantage.

To view a list of all the windows that are open, click Window from the menu bar. The active window is indicated by a checkmark.

To view the contents of a specific window better, expand it by clicking the maximize button (single-window square) on the window’s title bar; to collapse an expanded window, click the restore button (double-window square) on the window’s title bar.

To keep the window open but clear it from the workspace, click the minimize button (square with a single line in it) on the window’s title bar. The window disappears from the workspace and becomes a taskbar button on the task bar. Click the taskbar button to restore the window to the workspace.

To enlarge the window text from its normal size, press Ctrl+Shift+>; to return the window text to its normal size, press Ctrl+Shift+< .

View Hidden Windows

Workspace windows may overlap so that all the layers of windows are not visible on your screen at the same time. For example, in the Bible Study Fast-Start workspace, only one of the three possible commentary windows is visible in the lower right quadrant of the screen. To change the visible commentary, click Window from the menu bar and select a different commentary. The new commentary will become the active window.

To view a list of what windows or books are open, click Window on the menu bar. To see a window that currently is not displayed in the workspace, click it from the list of window names.
