Overview
The workspace is the selection and arrangement of open books, notes and search results on your screen. It can be compared with the books and tools that you would arrange on your desk before working on a study. A well-arranged workspace can greatly enhance how you work.
You may choose among several ways to automatically arrange your initial workspace when you start a Logos 2.1 session so that Logos always begins where you like to start, or you may set the Logos Startup Macro if you use Logos 2.0. During your session, you may create and manage workspaces in a variety of ways. For example, if you are working on a task and you have created an arrangement of windows and toolbars that you like, you can save it as a named workspace. Later, you can load that workspace from your Workspace list when you want to do that type of type of task again. You also may manage the Workspace list to rename or delete a workspace in the list.
Instructions
Set Startup Preferences for Workspaces (for Logos 2.1 and above)
When you first install Logos, the Logos Overview Guide Book or Instant Expert Guide is loaded as your initial or startup workspace. It will continue to appear as your startup workspace until you change your startup preferences.
Caution to Logos 2.0 users: An upgrade to Logos 2.1 is strongly recommended. Logos version 2.1 and above has built-in features to make it easy to customize your workspace when you start Logos. For a free upgrade to the most current shipping version of Logos, go to the Logos Web site http://www.logos.com/products/update.
To set your startup preferences, from the Edit menu, click Preferences... and then click the Startup tab. When you change your startup preferences, you can choose one of four ways to set up the initial workspace at the start of your next Logos session by clicking the button to select or clear it:
- Load Books.
- Load Workspace.
- Run Macro.
- Do Nothing.
If the Load Books button is selected, when you run Logos the workspace appears with the books that appear in your Startup Books list opened. The default setting when you first install Logos is for Load Books with the Logos Bible Software Overview Guide or Instant Expert Guide from the Accessory Books category of the Library Browser. To change your Startup Books list, click Add... and double-click the title from the Choose Startup Book dialog box, or click on a title in the Startup Books list and click Delete, and then click Ok.
Note: Deleting a book from your Startup Books list does not remove it from your book list. To start with books and windows opened and positioned in specific ways, use the Load Workspace button.
If the Load Workspace button is selected, Logos opens and arranges the books, toolbars and windows associated with the named workspace that you select. You can choose from several different types of workspaces to automatically load at startup:
- Logos-designed Fast-Start Workspaces (for Logos 2.1e and above Bible Reference Series and Scholar’s Library collections)
In your workspace list if you have installed Fast-Start workspaces, you have a choice among several preset workspace configurations that are designed to tailor your session for specific study activities and products. For example, the "Devotional" options set up a workspace for doing daily Bible devotions or beginning Bible studies. The "Bible Study" options set up a workspace for doing in-depth Bible studies based on the books available in the Bible Reference Series collections. The "Original Language" options set up a workspace for advanced research based on the books in the Scholar's Library collection. The workspace that you select in your Workspace startup preferences will appear when you start Logos. See the TechResponse article "Use Fast-Start Workspaces" for more information.
From the Startup preferences tab, click the Load Workspace button and click the Workspace drop box to select one of the Fast-Start workspaces, then click OK.
Caution: Make sure the "Autosave Workspace" checkbox is unchecked.
Note: You can easily select a different workspace during your session. From the File menu, click Load Workspace... and double-click the named workspace you want to use.
- User-Defined Workspaces
From the Startup preferences tab, click the Load Workspace button and click the Workspace drop box to select one of the named workspaces that you previously saved, then click OK. If you saved a workspace without naming it, Logos will give the workspace the name "Default."
Caution: Make sure the "Autosave Workspace" checkbox is unchecked.
Note: You can easily save a workspace during your session. From the File menu, click Save Workspace As..., enter an appropriate workspace name, and click OK.
- Most Recent Workspace
Check the Autosave Workspace checkbox to automatically save the workspace you are using when you exit your Logos session and to automatically restart where you left off when you begin your next Logos session.
Note: The Load Workspace button also must be selected.
If the Run Macro button is selected, Logos will run a startup macro to automatically set up your workspace to display the results of whatever procedure you programmed the macro to do.
Note to Logos 2.0 users: You can create a startup macro to load specific books by editing the Logos20.ini file. For example, if you'd like to see Spurgeon's Morning and Evening "Devotional for today" when you start, see the TechResponse article "Set or Change the Logos Startup Macro" for more information.
If the Do Nothing button is selected, when you run Logos the workspace normally appears with your book titles bar on the left, a toolbar on the top, and gray space until you open a book or use a feature.
Name, save, modify and use workspaces as you work
During your Logos session, you can save the current display of your books and windows as a named workspace that you can load again at another time. From the File menu, click Save Workspace As..., then type whatever name you want to call the workspace. The workspace name can be up to 39 characters including spaces. Click OK to save the named workspace.
You can modify the workspace you currently have loaded. Make your changes, then from the File menu, click Save Workspace.... If you do not have a named workspace loaded and you save the current workspace without naming it, Logos will name the workspace "Default."
Note: If you install the Fast-Start workspaces, then the Logos-designed workspace names also will appear in the selection list. If you modify a Fast-Start workspace, use the Save Workspace As... command and save the modified workspace with a different name. This is recommended to retain the original Fast-Start workspace in your list in addition to your modified workspace.
To use a different named workspace, from the File menu, click Load Workspace..., and double-click the workspace name.
Rename workspaces
To rename your current workspace, from the File menu, click Save Workspace As... and type the new name, then click OK. Select the File menu again, click Load Workspace..., click the old name, click Delete and then click Ok.
Delete workspaces
To delete a workspace from the Workspace list, from the File menu, click Load Workspace.... Click the workspace name you want to delete, click Delete and then click Ok.
Note: You cannot delete a workspace named Default.
Change the Default workspace
You may make changes to the Default workspace. A workspace named "Default" is created if you have not loaded a workspace and you use the Save Workspace command or if you use the Save Workspace As... command and name the workspace "Default." If the Default workspace is not already loaded, from the File menu, click Load Workspace... and double-click Default. Make whatever changes to the workspace you want and then from the File menu, click Save Workspace.
You may designate a different named workspace as your Default. To use a different workspace as the default, from the File menu, click Load Workspace... and double-click the named workspace you want to use as "Default." From the File menu, click Save Workspace As... and type Default as the new name and click OK. When the "Replace existing workspace?" dialog box appears, click Yes.
