Overview

Fast-Start workspaces are a Quick Start feature that that tailors your session for specific Bible study activities and products. The workspace is the selection and arrangement of open books, notes and search results on your screen. It can be compared with the books and tools that you would arrange on your desk before working on a study. A well-arranged workspace can greatly enhance how you work.

Based on the Logos Scholar’s Library book collection, the Original Language workspace opens, arranges, links and sets the books and features that many customers will find useful to do the task at hand.

This article provides general instructions about how to use the Original Language workspace. See the TechResponse article "Use Fast-Start Workspaces" for introductory information.

Instructions

The Original Language workspace is designed to conduct in-depth Bible study based on the Bible’s language of origin.

To load the Original Language workspace, follow these steps:

  1. From the File menu, click Load Workspace....
  2. Double-click the version of the Original Language workspace name you want to load.

Caution: If you do not have the Scholar’s Library collection unlocked, all the Bible, dictionary and study tool windows may not appear.

The Original Language workspace is divided into five functional areas to assist your Bible study.

Original Language Text

The Original Language Text window is your starting place for the language study in a morphologically-tagged edition of the New or Old Testaments of the Bible. Type the Bible reference in the reference box to begin.

Bible Target

The Bible target window is where you look when you select a “hot spot” reference. The reference appears in the Bible target window. Young’s Literal Translation has been selected as the Bible target because it is included in the Scholar’s Library collection and is a literal translation. However, you may replace this version with any versified Bible of your choice.

Additional Language

The Additional Language area displays the Greek Interlinear for New Testament references or the Septuagint (lxx) for Old Testament references.

Language Dictionary

The Language Dictionary area presents book windows for various dictionaries of Biblical languages, including Strong’s lexicon and TVM verb parsing. When you double-click on a word in one of the functional areas, additional information appears in a window in the Language Dictionary area. Many of the links in books that appear here will go to books that appear in the Lexicon & Bible Dictionary area.

Lexicon & Bible Dictionary

The Lexicon & Bible Dictionary area presents book windows for more in-depth lexicon and Bible dictionary resources. Book windows here often will be activated by links from books in the Language Dictionary area.

Note: If a reference that you like is not available, you may want to purchase or "unlock" a book to use. Go to the Logos web site http://www.logos.com/ebooks/ to view our book catalog, or http://www.logos.com/products/ to purchase book collections.

When you load the Original Language Fast-Start workspace and you have the Scholar’s Library collection in your Logos library, up to twelve books with linking and cross-reference features automatically are opened and set for you. The following table describes the relationships:

When you load the Bible Study workspace, you can follow these steps to get started:

  1. Determine the Bible passage that you want to study.

Type an Old Testament Bible reference (e.g., Genesis 1:1) in the reference box of the Original Language Text book and press Enter.

  2. Look for extra information associated with words as you read the passage.

Extra information is indicated when the pointer has an asterisk. Right-click on a word where extra information is indicated to see the popup window, then select Information.... An information popup window will appear.

  3. Review the extra information.

Double-click on the Greek or Hebrew Lemma information in the popup window. The Lexicon & Bible Dictionary area in the workspace will display the extra information reference.

  4. Click on the links from the lexicon or Bible dictionary to see additional information from other references.

  5. Type a New Testament Bible reference (e.g., Matthew 1:1) in the reference box of the Original Language Text book and press Enter. Repeat steps 2-4 to see how the workspace functions differ depending on the original language of the reference.
