Update Your Logos 2.1 Library on Your Computers (Logos Library System)
The information in this article applies to the following products:
- Logos Library System software version 2.1 and above
Caution: If you have Logos version 2.0, see "Backup and Restore the Logos 2.0 System Files."
Summary
We strongly recommend that you make a LOGOS Backup Disk every time you unlock a LLS book or collection from any publisher so that you will be able to restore your library if disaster strikes, such as when your hard disk fails or a system file is damaged or deleted. When you run Logos, the Tools menu command Backup Logos System Files... includes a record of the book unlocks in your library. The library system backup is stored by default to a file named Logos.lsb. The Tools menu command Restore System Files from Backup... recovers your book unlocks.
Caution: If you fail to maintain a working LOGOS Backup Disk as you unlock additional books, you may call Customer Service at 1-800-87LOGOS (1-800-875-6467) to help you restore your library and "re-unlock" the books you've purchased from Logos Research Systems, Inc. Although unlocks for books purchased from Logos Research Systems, Inc. normally can be recovered, a service fee may be charged (for example, $15 on SKU #514). Depending on individual LLS publisher policies, you may need to re-purchase some books to completely restore your library. See TechResponse articles "Re-install Logos with a LOGOS Backup Disk" and "Re-install Logos without a LOGOS Backup Disk" for additional information.
When you install Logos on the hard disk of your computer, you also are licensed to install the software to an additional computer, for example to your laptop or to your home computer, as long as the software and books are in use on only one machine at a time. You can use the LOGOS Backup Disk to restore the Logos system files from the computer where you unlocked new books to your other computer to update your library there as well.
Additional Notes
The Logos Library System can be customized to include preferences or settings such as workspaces, associated titles or keylinks and multiple locations for where to search for books. The backup file (Logos.lsb) does not include these settings. To be able to restore your customized settings as well as your book unlocks, also copy C:\WINDOWS\Logos20.ini and C:\LRSYSTEM\Logos.map (where C: is your hard drive letter name and where LRSYSTEM is the directory where you installed Logos) from the original system to the LOGOS Backup Disk. The Logos20.ini and Logos.map files are specific to the computer where they originate, so if you backup the files, make a separate LOGOS Backup Disk for each computer where you have lawfully installed Logos.
Note that in some cases, restoration of the Logos20.ini or Logos.map copy may be unsuccessful if the file is corrupted or if you are not restoring the file to its original system.
Instructions
Keep the LOGOS Backup Disk in a safe place, where it will not be lost or damaged by magnetization, moisture, temperature extremes or dust.
Use the same LOGOS Backup Disk whenever you make a backup of the Logos system files. The backup record is cumulative as you add unlocks to your library. Replace the existing file with the new file to prevent future confusion about which disk to use to restore the system files. (Note: You can make a copy of the backup disk to ensure that you have a working copy if the floppy disk fails. However, make sure to always replace the copy whenever you update your backup disk.) The backup disk(s) may be used only to restore a Logos Library System that you have been legally authorized to install according to the software Licensing Agreement.
