Troubleshoot When Setup or Update Doesn't Run (for the Logos Library System generation of software)
The information in this article applies to the following products:
- Logos Library System software version 2.0 and above
- Logos LessonBuilder software versions 1.0, 1.1
- Logos Bible Atlas software
- Logos Multimedia Products
Summary
To run Setup or Update to install Logos products, it is best to begin with only your Windows software running on your system. If there are other programs running, it may interfere with your system’s ability to run the Setup or Update program.
Also make sure that you are using the correct CD or floppy disk in the CD-ROM or floppy drive, the correct CD-ROM or floppy drive letter name, and the correct program name.
Symptoms
Setup or Update will not run.
Probable Cause
If you are using the correct CD or floppy disk and file name, then the most likely reason that Setup or Update does not run is because there is a conflict with other programs. You may have other programs that are running in the background and using your system’s memory resources, such as Microsoft Office applications programs, screen savers or virus detection software. These types of programs can interfere with Logos installation.
Resolution (or) Workaround
Verify the correct CD or floppy disk.
Make sure that you have the correct CD or floppy disk where the Setup or Update program is located inserted in your CD-ROM or floppy drive. Setup (SETUP.EXE) usually is located on your "LLS Collection" product CD or floppy disk. Update (UPDATE.EXE) usually is located on your locked LLS book CD Volume 1.
Verify the correct drive letter and program file name.
Also make sure that, when you run the program, you have entered the correct drive letter and file name for where your Setup or Update program is located, for example x:\SETUP or x:\UPDATE (where "x" is your CD-ROM drive letter name). Check that you have correctly typed the program name.
To determine the drive letter names in your computer system, from Windows 95/98/NT double-click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. From Windows 3.1 Program Manager, click the drive box drop-down arrow (the box is directly below the File menu).
Close all open programs except Windows, including screensaver and wallpaper programs.
To close all applications programs, click the close box at the upper right corner of every open window.
To close screensaver and wallpaper programs, right-click somewhere in your Windows desktop and click Properties and then click Background and Screensaver tabs and select (None) and Apply for each option, then click OK. Re-start Windows.
If you have background programs running, they will be represented as icons on right side of your task bar. To close the background programs, right-click the icon and click Exit to quit each program.
Note: To restore your screensaver and wallpaper programs after you install Logos, right-click somewhere in your Windows desktop and click Properties and then click the Background or Screensaver tab. Select the option you want and click Apply. When you have finished selecting options for each tab, click OK. Restart Windows. Your startup background programs will run again when you restart Windows.
Run Setup or Update again.
After you verify that you are using the correct CD and program file name and location, and you close all open programs except Windows, run your Setup or Update program again. If the program still will not run, call Tech Support at (360) 685-2337.
